This page hardly describes a walk - it was just a wander from a car park up to Haytor and back, accompanying someone less able. It is a typical tourist jaunt. Of course, I had to go back up the hill again with my compass just to take some bearings to identify some far distant tors etc.

This walk: 2007-5-2 - Haytor and a nearby Saddle Tor (from another car park)

The view almost from the car park - there are well-worn tracks to the top

Haytor - still closer

Still closer and from the west

End view

View from behind, where climbers were later practising

The second formation a little to the south-west, slightly higher with a spot height of 457 meters (1,500 feet) at SX 75740 77008

View towards the south-west from the second feature showing Rippon Tor at SX 74653 75568 on the skyline and Saddle Tor (SX 75083 75390) to the lower right

View westwards towards the TV mast on North Hessary Tor. This is shown in more detail in the next photo, where the tors northwards to Great Mist Tor are identified - following last week's excellent map and compass course at Compassworks!

Zoomed view of the above photograph. The left-most arrow is North Hessary Tor 506 m (1660 feet) with the TV mast at a bearing of 261 Mag and a distance of 16.4 km (10.2 miles) although I made it 266 but it was not easy to see the mast or "fix" without a sighting mechanism.

The right-most tor, labelled  "3" on the photo, is believed to be Higher White Tor 527 m (1728 feet) at 277 Mag (I had 280 ) 13.8 km (8.5 miles), then, looking left .....

Longaford Tor 507 M (1663 feet) at 274 Mag 14.2 km (8.8 miles), then ....

Great Mis Tor 538 m (1765 feet) at 270 Mag 19.5 km (12 miles), then ....

Bellever Tor, labelled "2" on the photograph,  443 m (1453 feet) at 267 Mag 11.2 km (6.9 miles)

If anyone can improve on these identifications, distances etc, please email me - all in the quest for perfection!

The second formation seen from along the road at the next car park

As above, but zoomed closer

Again, as before but with a "B" boundary stone indicating Buckland in the Moor Parish
